📰 What you need to know

👉 The U.S. – China trade deal is finally official. Tariffs are lower but still painful:

  • U.S. drops its rate on Chinese goods from 145% to a slightly-less-insane 55%

  • China slashes its tariffs on U.S. stuff from 125% to just 10%

Now, what does this mean if you sell on Amazon? If your supplier is in China, this might sting less than it did a few months ago, but 55% tariffs are still no joke.

On the flip side, if you're exporting to China or dealing with U.S.-made goods, this could open some interesting doors. Plus, Trump hinted at a future deal to let American businesses dig deeper into China. Translation: keep one eye on Amazon and the other on trade news because things could either get spicy or go full "out of stock" real quick.

👉 My friend Jon Elder recently launched a newsletter for Walmart Sellers: Walmart Insiders. Remember this is the guy who scale Amazon Insiders to +20k subscribers, so you don’t wanna miss this.

👉 According to Momentum Commerce and Ahrefs, Google has 45.7% of branded searches, vs 22.9% on Amazon. Meaning, brands are not so important on Amazon (yet) and users search for stuff they need.

👉 The German Federal Cartel Office (sounds bad, uh?) has put legal focus on Amazon's price-setting mechanisms for 3P sellers, stating they likely breach EU competition law. Amazon accounts 60% of Germany’s online retail space, so this could be a major regulatory movement.

👉 Say goodbye to Amazon Posts, the free content feed for lifestyle images and social-style engagement. The feature will be fully removed by July 31, following a steep drop in impressions and the shift toward paid media and revamped product pages.

So we lose a free discovery tool (no major impact, as it never worked, tbh) and need to double down on Sponsored Brands, A+ and Storefronts. The PPC game always wins.

👉 Amazon is laying off fewer than 100 employees in its books business due to print book performance plateauing. Amazon is hifting focus to more profitable categories while, on the other hand independent bookstores are booming and Barnes & Noble is planning 60 new openings this year. All-in for Kindle and Audible audio books!
