Marketplace⚡Mastery #91: Trump says "EAT THE TARIFFS", how to leverage the 90 days tariff pause and more

Hey sellers! Learn how to retarget your Amazon customers without DSP + a whole newsletter on tariffs info and tips

As Matthew Hasset, CEO of Loftie, shared on LinkedIn, tariffs are down for now but the impact on e-commerce brands is still brutal. Even if the base rate is now 30%, tariffs are category-specific and you might be looking at 60%-70% tariffs on your products.

Our friends at 3fin has prepared a free Tariff Impact Calculator using accurate data for the market and your product info:

✅ Instantly see how much tariffs are costing you
✅ Get SKU-level insights tied to your specific listings
✅ Forecast different scenarios for your P&L to include different tariff rates

🛑 Attention Amazon Sellers: Jon Elder about tariffs!

Tariffs going from 145% to 30% was quite the 180 last week!

I know, there is serious debate on Trump. Some hate him, some love him. Here’s the reality, as brand owners we are all in the same boat and must adapt quickly!

If you source from China, this is your moment. Place those massive orders and book those ships while you still can. Many are talking about $15,000 bookings so I would jump on this now while the prices are still cheap.

Also, I would place 5-10x your historical order size with your factories. We simply don’t know what will happen over the next 90 days. Could be good. Could be bad. None of us have an eight ball! What we do have is a short window to secure inventory to get through Christmas.

This is an incredible opportunity. Do it and don’t look back. Use third-party lending if necessary. I hope you didn’t cancel your Prime Day deals! Another hack: use this 90 day window as leverage to renegotiate your inventory terms.

I’ve talked about NET 60 before but I’ll bring this up again. Make it your mission to secure these terms. For those who have never heard of this, in a nutshell, it means that you don’t send your factory the final inventory payment until it has been 60 days since leaving their factory.

This means that it’s already in FBA warehouses when you pay them.

Hello cash flow on YOUR terms!
Let’s go!

📰 What you need to know

👉 Meanwhile, on the political front, Donald Trump told Walmart to “EAT THE TARIFFS” rather than raise prices. The retail battlefield is heating up: on one side, companies are investing billions in AI and robotics to dodge rising labor and import costs; on the other, political chaos and unpredictable trade policies are leaving sellers scrambling. If you're in eCommerce and still operating like it’s 2022, you might be the next one replaced either by a robot or a policy shift.

👉 What’s on your website can now get your Amazon listing taken down.
Amazon is cross-checking your external content and acting on it, Vanessa Hung reports

👉 The real state of AI shopping agents, according to MarketMaze. Let’s say… we’re not at "AI does all your shopping" just yet:

  • Perplexity Pro: Offers in-chat checkout via Shopify and PayPal/Venmo, but is U.S.-only and limited to pro users.

  • Amazon's “Buy for Me”: Supports checkout, but only for selected U.S. brands.

  • ChatGPT Shopping: Useful for discovery, but no checkout, just links to merchants.

  • Microsoft Copilot Shopping: Just launched; checkout works, but still struggling with product data consistency.

👉 Amazon is quietly replacing human workers with an army of futuristic robots that don’t take breaks, call in sick or organize unions. With over 750k robots already handling more than 75% of customer orders and new models like Vulcan and Tipper set to take over even more warehouse tasks, the message is clear: automation isn’t coming. It’s here.
