Marketplace⚡Mastery #152: Amazon kills credit card ad payments, hijacks your PPC for influencers and more

Hey sellers! Ad payments now hit your seller balance, your Sponsored Products are funding influencers, and Amazon is harvesting keywords for you.

🚀 Sellerise just launched its Claude integration

Your Amazon account may be leaking profit right now, and Claude can show you exactly where. Sellerise connects your real Amazon data to Claude securely, so you can ask questions like:

  • Which ASINs are hurting my margin?

  • Where am I wasting PPC spend?

  • What keywords am I missing?

Claude analyzes the data and gives you specific problems, opportunities, and next steps in seconds.

No screenshots. No exports. No spreadsheets. Just answers based on your actual business.

Get your 7-day free Sellerise trial and see what Claude finds in your account.

👉 Amazon stopped accepting credit cards for Ads payments on August 1 and charges are now deducted automatically from your seller balance, which can create real cash flow issues depending on how you run your account.

There is an alternative: switch your payment profile to "Pay by Invoice" and get invoiced at the end of the month with 30 days to pay by bank transfer.

How? Go to Amazon Ads → Billing & Payments → Payment Profile. It takes a few minutes to check.

The switch worked in the US, Canada, UK and Germany, but not in France, Italy, Spain and some smaller marketplaces. Eligibility differs per account, so don't assume your current setup is the only option.

👉 Your Sponsored Products ads are now running through the Amazon Influencer Program by default and this is a clusterf***. Existing campaigns are automatically opted in, with Amazon algorithmically matching your ASINs to creators and no campaign changes needed on your side.

Gold and Platinum tier creators are picking up recommended products because Amazon is sweetening the deal with guaranteed earnings per click: they get paid to feature you, you keep paying standard CPC. This is top of funnel contextual traffic, not high intent search, so watch your CVR and ACOS and opt out any product that isn't a fit for Reels and lifestyle content.

👉 Amazon Ads built keyword harvesting into the console. This was spotted in a manual Sponsored Products campaign running $400/day, in a Beta box under Targeting strategy, currently limited to a small set of high spending brands. The published rules are aggressive: up to 4 new keywords and product targets every 12 to 24 hours (as many as 8 a day), entering at or below your current bid, with Amazon auto pausing losers (no impressions in 3 days, no clicks in 7 days, 20 clicks and no sale after 14 days, or 15% of daily budget spent with no sale).

👉 "Campaign overview (Beta)" is now reading your campaigns for you + it gets things wrong. The new box at the top of Sponsored Products campaigns delivers an AI summary with one click fixes.

Problem 1: nine of the ten search terms it wanted negated had exactly 1 click, which is not a losing term, it's a term that hasn't had a chance yet.

Problem 2: it doesn't know your goal, so it assumes efficiency even when you're running a ranking campaign where high ACOS is the plan. Decent analysis, missing context.

👉 Amazon Q2 2026 numbers for sellers:

  • Net sales grew 20% YoY

  • Ad revenue hitting $19.8 billion, up 26%

  • Online Stores grew 15%

  • Third-party Seller Services 16%

  • Worldwide paid units 17%, though

👉 AI shopping is crossing into mass market territory as EMARKETER expects 104.1M Americans to use generative AI for shopping monthly by 2029, that's 30.3% of the US population, with nearly 80 million already using AI shopping tools in 2026.

👉 SmartScout is bringing its data first approach to TikTok Shop analytics, so you can see which shops are growing fastest, which categories are expanding, which creators and affiliates are actually moving sales, and which products are driving real revenue instead of a one day viral spike. 👉 If your listing doesn't answer a real customer question, Alexa for Shopping won't pick it.

Amazon no longer matches exact keywords, it indexes semantically with BERT type models and embeddings, so "wireless headphones" and "bluetooth headsets" land in the same cluster and your content gets assigned semantic tags by AI.

Structure for that:

  • clear title with main keyword plus benefit

  • bullets built on feature to benefit logic in natural language

  • description that covers story, context, usage and FAQs.

  • Use your 500 backend bytes for synonyms, translations and search variations, never for words already in your title or bullets.

Get it wrong and Amazon tags you incorrectly, you show up in irrelevant searches, and CTR and CVR signals bury you. Extracted from my ebook Amazon SEO.
